Transversal child protection expertise

Working together for the wellbeing of children

Friendship TdhTdh supports countries in developing and strengthening comprehensive and well-coordinated child protection systems. We raise the capacities of formal and non-formal actors engaged in promoting the wellbeing of children and the protection of their rights. At regional and local levels, our projects prioritise the participation, empowerment and resilience of children and young people, particularly through mental health and psychosocial support interventions. We also work in partnership with families and communities to create safe and nurturing environments for children and young people.

What we do

MHPSS

Mental health and psychosocial support

Tdh supports the mental health and psychosocial wellbeing of children, young people, and their caregivers affected by conflict, displacement, and adversity. We create safe and friendly spaces and equip local professionals to provide quality care using evidence-based tools developed by Tdh, such as Movement, Games, Sports and Creativity (MGSC) and Move On & Engage, as well as tools from partners, including I Support My Friends and BLOOM.

Child and youth participation

Tdh actively promotes meaningful and inclusive participation of children and young people across its programmes and beyond. Through Child and Youth Advisory Boards and youth-led creative initiatives based on the YouCreate methodology, we support their involvement in decisions that affect their lives. This work strengthens accountability, empowers youth people and builds their confidence, and contributes to more responsive, child-friendly systems.

prevent violence icon

Preventing violence against children

Tdh works to prevent and address violence against children, with a strong focus on school environments. We raise awareness of harmful social and gender norms and promote positive behaviours. By training school staff, facilitators, parents, and young people, we help them recognise and respond effectively to violence. Grounded in research and community engagement, our approach fosters safer, more supportive schools where every child can grow and thrive free from violence.

Strengthening safeguarding capacities

Tdh strengthens the safeguarding of aid recipients (children and adults) and staff in both development and humanitarian contexts. We localize resources, tailor actions to community needs, and focus on marginalized groups using inclusive, survivor-cantered approaches. Through training, coaching, advocacy, and small grants for under-resourced organisations, we foster collaboration and empower local actors to build sustainable safeguarding systems for vulnerable populations.
