Children and young people on the move

Working together for safe migration

Whether children in Europe are on the move, at destination, returned to their home country or are left behind by migrating parents, we make sure that they are protected, have access to their rights and are treated without any discrimination. We support integration and provide educational opportunities, as well as safe spaces where children can improve their well-being, gain skills and exert their agency. Together with our partners, we help refugee children and their families with emergency assistance and information. Our team advocates for child-friendly migration policies on a European and international level, while empowering children and young people to claim their rights.

What we do

Tdh information

Information and prevention of risks

Tdh provides children and young people on the move, along with their family members, with timely, accessible, and reliable information to help them make safe decisions. Through outreach activities, workshops, and digital tools, we raise awareness about rights, asylum, trafficking risks, and available services along migration routes. We also train professionals and peer actors to support risk prevention and the early identification of vulnerable children and youth on the move.

Tdh Migration

Protection and accompaniment services

Tdh ensures that children receive continuous, child-friendly protection throughout their migration journey. Using a protective accompaniment approach, we offer individual case management, psychosocial support, and safe spaces along the migration route. We work closely with child protection systems, communities, and frontline workers to identify at-risk children and strengthen responses in countries of origin, transit, and destination.

Tdh empowerment

Empowerment and (re)integration

Tdh promotes the empowerment and integration of children and young people on the move by providing the tools, support, and spaces they need to thrive, contribute, and feel a sense of belonging. Through learning spaces and Resilience Innovation Facilities, we offer non-formal education, as well as vocational, digital, and language training. In Europe, we facilitate cultural, sports, recreational, and civic engagement activities, and support youth leadership and peer mentoring. Whether integrating locally or returning to their country of origin, children are supported in finding safe, durable solutions tailored to their needs and aspirations.

Tdh cooperation

Influencing systems and environments

Tdh advocates for systemic change to ensure that migration and protection systems are more child-sensitive and rights-based. We engage with governments and EU bodies, support cross-border cooperation, and provide training for professionals. Through research and evidence, Tdh influences policies to better reflect the realities of children and young people on the move. We actively support young migrants and refugees in leading their own campaigns and promote their participation in global forums to amplify their voices.

It's all about children

Innovative approaches in child empowerment

Tdh RIF Hungary"Through art, creative methods, and games, we want to empower children to act more responsibly in their closer and wider environment. To achieve this, we work with the RIF team to design projects that give children an age-appropriate framework that will help them to reach a positive outcome, while also giving them the freedom to change and personalize each step,"  shares Dorina Bencsics, Resilience Innovation Facilities (RIF) Officer in Hungary
