Terre des hommes Greece

Terre des hommes is a key child protection actor in Greece, having started its work in 2016 in response to the refugee crisis and establishing a local office in 2018.

In 2024, Tdh supported families on the move, and continued its innovative work on access to justice and child safeguarding. We developed creative methodologies within a strong mental health and psychosocial support framework and enhanced children’s voices within project design and implementation through our guidelines on child participation, focus group discussions and the establishment of Child Advisory Boards.

What we do

Tdh A2J

Access to justice for children and young people

We promote restorative justice for children and advocate for child-friendly, rights-based legal processes. Our work strengthens professionals’ capacities, educates children about their rights, and empowers them to speak up for a justice system that protects them. Using AI, we develop innovative, child-friendly tools to improve access to justice. We also support parents of children in contact with the law by offering psychoeducation sessions.

Tdh Migration

Children and young people on the move

We provide mental health and psychosocial support to displaced children and their families while also strengthening the capacity of professionals working with them. Our approach includes trauma-informed care and community-based interventions that promote social inclusion, resilience, and overall wellbeing.

Child protection

We work to prevent and reduce gender-based violence among young people in schools by engaging parents, teachers, and students in awareness-raising and capacity-building initiatives. Using participatory approaches, we strengthen safeguarding mechanisms and promote safer environments for children.

Tdh Hellas quote

"At Terre des hommes Hellas, we believe that strengthening the systems around children is essential to creating safer and more resilient environments where they can thrive. In 2024 alone, our capacity-building activities reached over 600 professionals working closely with children. We shared knowledge, experience, and good practices related to child protection and mental health interventions. These included evidence-based methodologies such as Problem Management Plus, peer-to-peer support models, and participatory action research.

It is inspiring and promising to see how these tools can empower frontline workers to better support children and families in need. Every training session is more than just a transfer of knowledge – it's about fostering a community of practice that prioritizes safeguarding and transformative resilience."
