Terre des hommes Hungary

Terre des hommes (Tdh) opened its Regional Hub in Budapest in 2006 with a dual function: providing expertise and advice for Tdh operations across Europe and implementing local and regional projects. The office also became a global communication hub, providing communication support for several European and international projects. From 2026, the office operates as the Hungary Country Office.

In 2025, Tdh Hungary continued its support for Ukrainian refugees through multiple projects focused on integration, wellbeing, and skills development.

What we do

Tdh child protection

Child protection

Our child protection programme – being a cross-cutting theme – focuses on empowering children and ensuring their participation. We also work on creating safer environments for children by improving the child safeguarding systems of various institutions such as sports clubs, non-governmental organisations, and summer camps.

Tdh access to justice

Access to justice for children and young people

Through research, training, raising awareness and advocacy, we promote child-friendly practices for children in contact with the law. With our partners, we encourage states to apply restorative justice, use non-custodial measures for children and implement services for the prevention of delinquency and re-offending.

Children and young people on the move

Our team advocates for child-friendly migration policies on a European and international level while empowering children and young people to claim their rights. We are working to make sure children and young people affected by migration are protected and treated equally. In Hungary, we improve the wellbeing of refugee children and families from Ukraine and ensure their protection by providing child protection services and psychosocial support.

Resilience Innovation Facilities

RIF Hungary"At RIF, you can truly feel at home, since it is a Ukrainian community where you can meet like-minded people and simply spend time in a Ukrainian-speaking environment." Katerina, Ukrainian refugee in Ukraine

In 2025, we supported Ukrainian refugees through multiple projects focused on integration, wellbeing, and skills development. Our Resilience Innovation Facilities (RIF) in Budapest and Debrecen thrived as hubs of learning and creativity. We provided community spaces, digital and language training, summer camps, and employment counselling for young people, while also supporting youth-led initiatives.
